SEASON 12, EPISODE 16, “OPEN SESAME” ARTIFACT ANALYSIS

The Curse of Oak Island – The History Channel
The Curse of Oak Island – The History Channel

This author was on vacation when the episode, “OPEN SESAME” originally aired last Tuesday in North America. After viewing the episode, I wanted to specifically discuss two segments of the show. The first scene in question was in the LAB, where the Oak Island team met with Archeologists Moya MacDonald and Laird Niven to discuss some brick samples that had been collected on the island. They revealed that these samples of brick matched some that were locally sourced from a brick kiln that operated in the 1600’s. No other information was given about the specific kiln.  It was then intimated that the bricks may have been brought to Oak Island to construct something to hide treasure. Archeologist Laird Niven suggested that the bricks may have been part of an unknown construction on Lot 5. This was quite shocking to this author, and I am hoping it was just the common case of selective editing by production of the show.

Last season, Compendium Investigations presented, “THE MYSTERY OF THE OAK ISLAND BRICK FACTORY”, https://www.theoakislandcompendium.com/post/the-mystery-of-the-oak-island-brick-factory , which detailed evidence of a brick making operation on Oak Island. It is believed that brick kilns operated on Lot 9/10 and Lot 5. The conditions and geology of Oak Island were perfect for this process. The circular feature on Lot 5 was a confirmed brick kiln, this was specifically mentioned on the show previously but has now been ignored. The second scene I wanted to mention involved Archeologist Fiona Steele finding a sample of brick on Lot 5. She stated that there have been lots of bricks found all over the island. Yet, Rick Lagina later in the episode said that bricks were only concentrated to a few spots, which suggested construction to hide treasure. So, which is it? Why the contradiction? This author will leave you, the reader, to ponder the answer to that question. A full analysis of the next episode will resume this week.
